1. WHAT ESPUMISAN IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Espumisan is a medicine that belongs to a group of medicines called gastrointestinal agents.
Its active substance, simethicone, breaks down gas bubbles that have accumulated in the stomach and intestines.
The released gas is easily removed.
Espumisan is used:
- for the symptomatic treatment of diseases in which the gas in the gastrointestinal tract accumulates gas (flatulence), bloating, a feeling of fullness;
- before examination of abdominal organs, eg X-ray, ultrasound.
2. BEFORE YOU TAKE ESPUMISAN
Do not use Espumisan capsules if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to:
- the active substance simethicone,
- the coloring agent sunset yellow FCF (E110),
- the preservative methyl parahydroxybenzoate, or
- the other ingredients of Espumisan capsules.
Take special care:
Accumulation of gas can lead to more serious gastrointestinal disorders.
Signs may include:
- feeling of pressure and fullness,
- belching,
- gut gurgling,
- bloating.
If these digestive problems occur or last longer, you should consult your doctor.
It will determine if there are any diseases that require other treatment.
Taking other medicines No
interactions with other medicines are known.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Adverse effects of Espumisan during pregnancy and lactation are unlikely, as the active substance simethicone does not penetrate the gastrointestinal tract.
However, there are no clinical data from the use of Espumisan in pregnant women.
Driving and using machines
No special precautions are required.
The azo dye sunset yellow FCF (E110) in this medicine may cause allergic reactions.
Methyl parahydroxybenzoate may cause allergic reactions, which may be delayed.
3. HOW TO TAKE ESPUMISAN CAPSULES AGAINST BLASTING
Unless otherwise stated, always take Espumisan capsules exactly as described in this leaflet.

Dosage of Espumisan
When bloating and flatulence

Two capsules (equivalent to 80 mg simethicone)

Note:
Espumisan capsules can also be used after surgery.
Other forms of the medicine (eg liquid) are intended for children and infants under 6 years of age.
Take Espumisan capsules with or without food, if necessary, and at bedtime.
Espumisan can be used for as long as you feel the symptoms of the disorder.
Espumisan can be used for a long time if needed, but if the problem persists, see section 2, “Take special care”.
In preparing patients for gastrointestinal examinations, such as X-rays, ultrasounds
One day before the tests
Study days in the morning
2 capsules 3 times daily (equivalent to 240 mg simethicone daily)
2 capsules (equivalent to 80 mg simethicone)
If you have the impression that the effect of this medicine is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you use more Espumisan than you should
Harmful effects in case of overdose are unlikely.
Espumisan capsules are well tolerated even at high doses.
The active substance in Espumisan capsules, simethicone, breaks down gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract by acting only on its physical properties.
Simethicone does not penetrate the bloodstream.
If you forget to take Espumisan capsules
You can take the missed dose at any time.
If you stop taking Espumisan
If you stop taking Espumisan, your symptoms may return.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF ESPUMISAN
No side effects of Espumisan have been observed so far.
Espumisan capsules contain the dye sunset yellow FCF (E110), which may cause allergic reactions.
Espumisan capsules contain methyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions, including delayed allergic reactions.

5. HOW TO STORE ESPUMISAN CAPSULES AGAINST BLASTING
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use Espumisan capsules after the expiry date which is stated on the blister after EXP and on the carton after EXP.
The medicine is valid until the last day of the month shown.
Do not store above 30 ° C.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required.
These measures will help to protect the environment.
6. FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT ESPUMIZAN CAPSULES
Composition of Espumisan capsules
- The active substance in Espumisan is simethicone.
Each soft capsule contains 40 mg of simethicone.
- The other ingredients in Espumisan are methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), gelatin, glycerol (85%), quinoline yellow (E104), sunset yellow FCF (E110).
What Espumisan capsules look like and contents of the pack
Espumisan capsules are almost round, yellow, soft, gelatinous, with a smooth surface with a suture.
The contents of the capsule are colorless and may be slightly cloudy.
Pack sizes of 25, 50 or 100 soft capsules.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
