The pH value has an absolute impact on the aquarium ecology. In normal water, proper oxygen and carbon dioxide are dissolved. When the free carbon dioxide content in the water is reduced, in order to make up for the demand, aquatic plants will promote a biological decalcification effect in the water. Why test pH?
The pH value indicates that the water quality is acidic or alkaline (pH equal to 7 is neutral, pH greater than 7 is alkaline, and pH less than 7 is acidic). Most ornamental fishes can adapt to living at pH = 7 Neutral water quality, but there are also fish species that have special water quality preferences, such as: fish species with pH <7: colorful fairy, Amazonian fish, etc .; fish species with pH> 7: marine fish, African cichlid, etc. Only at the right pH can we keep the fish well.
Why test ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential)?
In terms of the aquarium concept that is easy to understand, the high or low redox potential ORP represents the ability of water to oxidize toxic Armonia and nitrite (but also oxidize other substances). In simple terms, When there are more pollutants in the fish tank, the redox potential is relatively low. When pollutants in the fish tank are relatively low, the redox potential is relatively high.
Generally, the oxidation-reduction potential of the fish rearing tank can be from 200 ~ 500mV (depending on the dissolved oxygen efficiency of the filtration system).
The reference value of the redox potential of a well-bred seawater soft tank is about 350 ~ 450mV.
