Description

Stella Maris or Star of the Sea is a title for Mary that dates back to the 4th and 5th century to St. Jerome. He translated the name of Mary from Hebrew and other sources to mean Star of the Sea. The devotion to Our Lady, Star of the Sea really took hold in the medieval period and was written about in the 5th, 8th and 9th centuries. In the 12th century St. Bernard of Clairvaux wrote "If the winds of temptation arise; if you are driven upon the rocks of tribulation look to the star, call on Mary. If you are tossed upon the waves of pride, of ambition, of envy, of rivalry, look to the star, call on Mary. Should anger, or avarice, or fleshly desire violently assail the frail vessel of your soul, look at the star, call upon Mary."

The statue was used as a template but the image has been completely altered and redesigned.  This bookmark has been digitally designed and handcrafted in the United States. The statue of Mary has been redesigned to offer a unique look. Pictured here Mary is standing on the ocean waves with a guiding star behind Her. She is the guiding star which leads us to Christ. This bookmark has been designed to honor the Mother of Jesus and to glorify God through veneration of Her.
The back of the bookmark offers quotes of famous Saints about Stella Maris.
The bookmark size is 2 inches wide by 7 inches long (2in x 7in). It comes with a looped Suede Velvet Leather string that matches the design. The string can be easily removed by unlooping. Bookmark is laminated to extend its use and to make it cleanable. It is beautifully designed and unlike any other bookmark of Mary under this title. String colors are usually blue for Mary but may vary depending on availability.

However, we are now offering these bookmarks in a thicker 5 mil laminate which is much more durable to offset the increase in price. We also round the corners which further prolongs their life.
